One of the most hyped games in recent years, Black Myth: Wukong, finally debuted on August 20th to an incredible fan reception. Quickly making the most of that momentum, the game managed to reach enough concurrent players to become the most-played single-player title on Steam!

However, developer Game Science is planning to take things to the next level by bringing an expansion that’s going to absolutely wreck Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree!
Black Myth: Wukong‘s Future Looks Bright
There’s no doubt that Black Myth: Wukong is one of the most ambitious projects we’ve ever seen. What’s even more shocking is that before this title, Game Science had never dipped its toes into AAA game development.

While the game looks phenomenal and plays just like any AAA in the market, it’s far from its full potential as of now. Due to the fact Game Science was restricted to a budget, they cut a lot of content from the game.
Initially, the game was supposed to ship with 13 chapters but ended up only receiving six long chapters. According to one of the reputable leakers in the community, the studio will offer the remaining chapters as DLCs, completing the legendary action RPG.
These seven chapters for Black Myth: Wukong will feature more than 100 unique boss battles, plenty of new adventures, and epic cinematic sequences that outright challenge the Elden Ring DLC.
Game Science has transformed in multiple ways since Black Myth: Wukong was first revealed. The development team has grown in size, and the studio decided to make the crucial switch to Unreal Engine 5, which certainly improved the experience.
When you add budget limitations to all these factors, it leads to chunks of the game not making it to the final build. However, now that Black Myth: Wukong has sold more than 18 million copies, the developers can continue elevating the experience and truly leave their mark on the industry.

According to reputable analyst Daniel Camilo, sources close to Game Science suggest that an expansion for the popular game will debut near the Chinese New Year, which is supposed to happen on January 29th, 2025. This means the DLC will be available to purchase right at the end of January or sometime in February.
While it’s great to see even more content for the game, we must keep our expectations in check. Game Science still hasn’t announced anything officially related to a DLC or revealed its development status.
As we’ve seen in the past, such sorts of things can always get pushed back due to various issues. At the moment, we still don’t have the game’s Xbox Series S/X version, which is currently the company’s top priority.

The Illuminate is a faction we know very little about. They are an alien race from the first Helldivers game and players have speculated their addition for a long time now.
Helldivers 2 Has More Than Just Balance Changes In Store
The Illuminate faction has long been speculated to be the next big addition to Helldivers 2. Players have found multiple hints and clues of their existence and possible addition to the game. And thanks to a leak, we finally have a look at the Illuminate Tripod, also called the Sentinel.
Judging by its looks, the Illuminate Tripod looks very similar to the towering ones from the War of the Worlds movie. And if the ones in the movie were any indication, the Tripod should be very dangerous. It reportedly fires a beam attack from its eye that players can disable by shooting at the eye.
What makes the Tripod leak even more intriguing is its movement. Unlike the mechanical Automatons or insect-like Terminids, the leaker described that the Tripod moves fluidly, almost like a living creature. So it’s possible that it is entirely organic and not a machine.

One of the key features of the Illuminate faction is its focus on technology and defensive capabilities. In the original Helldivers, the Illuminate were known for their barriers, shields, and sleek projectile weapons. With these leaks and datamines that suggest their addition, players eagerly await the day the Illuminate makes its debut.
After a rocky continuation of what was a successful start earlier this year, Arrowhead has been working hard to regain its player base. The game eventually fell from the grace of players but Patch 1.001.100 has made big changes for the good.

The Illuminate faction’s arrival could push Helldivers 2 to even greater heights. The current player base has already seen a resurgence, with numbers tripling in the wake of recent updates. As of September 18, 2024, the game’s player count hit a new peak, climbing to over 68,000. This was a remarkable comeback for a game that had seen its numbers dwindle earlier in the year.

The popular creature-collecting game Palworld took the world by storm this year. But it hasn’t been without controversy. There have been heavy comparisons between it and Pokémon since the game first came out in January 2024. And now it has gone to the next level.

Pocketpair’s CEO Takuro Mizobe has already stated previously that the game takes inspiration from a different game entirely.
Palworld Gameplay Was Inspired By a Completely Different Game
Despite Palworld‘s overwhelming success since its release in January 2024, the game has constantly faced scrutiny over its uncanny similarities to Pokémon. With creatures called Pals that bear a striking resemblance to certain Pokémon, it’s no wonder that there were raised concerns.

CEO Takuro Mizobe talked about this in several interviews leading up to the game’s release, including one with Automaton. Mizobe made it clear that the game isn’t just about collecting creatures and battling them, as many assumed based on its initial trailers.
While Pokémon was a major influence, Mizobe explained that Ark: Survival Evolved was a more fitting comparison in terms of mechanics and overall gameplay. Like Ark, Palworld is a survival first, with players needing to gather resources, build bases, and fend off any dangers, something Pokémon is nowhere close to.
Mizobe went on to say that while the monster-collecting element in their game might be reminiscent of Pokémon, the similarities end there. In Palworld, players use Pals not just for battle but for labor, crafting, and even as food sources.
Nintendo Always Strikes Back When You Least Expect It

As early as January 2024, the Pokémon Company began investigating potential copyright infringements. Fans had already pointed out that some Pals looked eerily similar to their favorite Pokémon characters. For many fans, the real question is; why did Nintendo take so long to act? The game has been available on platforms such as Steam and Xbox for months. It even sold five million copies within its first three days of release. Players loved the game’s chaotic mix of combat and creature collection, but Nintendo remained silent until now.
If Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are successful in their lawsuit, it could lead to the game being delisted or altered significantly to avoid further patent infringements. But for now, the devs are continuing to develop and update the game, despite the threat of legal action.
