October's always the perfect time to dive into horror games, and it looks like horror fans will be spoiled for choice this year. From the already-divisive Silent Hill 2 remake to the less thoroughly transformed return of Until Dawn, there are a lot of obvious options to leap for. Even the Starfield DLC Shattered Space is getting into the spirit, adding a touch of cosmic horror to a game that otherwise focuses more on the joy of exploration than the fear of the unknown.

Now, one fan has built a stunning recreation of one of the world's biggest cities.

After a breakout showing at the 2022 Chess Olympiad, Dommaraju Gukesh took things a step further this year in Budapest as he helped lead his nation to first place while also securing the individual gold. With the Indian women’s team also winning their competition, this marked an unprecedented national double.
Eight wins and two draws against the world’s elite: not a bad way to etch yourself into the chess record books at the tender age of eighteen. In 2022, Gukesh played on the first board of India’s second team (as the host nation has the opportunity to field three squads instead of one), ending the tournament with a 2867 tournament performance rating.

The final results for the winner of the Pokemon TCG Illustration Contest 2024 are in, and I'm in love with the winning piece.
Earlier this year, The Pokemon Company held a competition for fans of the series to submit some art that if it won, would be made into an official Pokemon Trading Card Game card (oh the winner gets $5000 too, which is nice). The results of the competition have finally been announced, and the winner is an artist by the name of Kazuki Minami, who drew maybe the best Pikachu card I've ever seen. You can see it at the end of a video that shows a bunch of the other submissions, or just look at the top of this page, but for those of you that don't want to do either of those things, it's a lovingly rendered piece showing Pikachu yawning and scratching its head with its foot, filled with such a real sense of life that can be so hard to do.
"I'm truly honored to receive this prize," Minami said in a statement. "As this was my first time taking part in this contest, I wasn't sure what to draw and how to draw it. That's when my dog came into my sight being cute - I was inspired to draw Pikachu in such a way that reminds me of my dog. So the prize belongs to my dog as much as it does to me, and we're both extremely happy and honored. Thank you."

Skyrim mods come in all shapes and sizes: for every DLC-scale quest mod we also get tiny, mechanical shifts in how we play the RPG. Even unassuming mods can prove to be the most popular. A simple change to the UI has over 17 million downloads, for example. To me, this is the beauty of the still-thriving community as even after 11 years, we're finding ways to rewrite our experience across Tamriel. Today, another small creation with huge ambition grabbed my attention, and if utilized properly it could change how we interact with Skyrim mods forever.

One crafty Stardew Valley player has used images found online to draw up a concept for an in-game hide for bird watching, as well as adding several bird sprites gathered together for a prime viewing experience. While the idea is just a concept, the Stardew Valley community seems excited by it, with hopes that it will one day be added to the game as a mod or otherwise.
