Don’t have a car to get to the polls on Election Day? Try these transportation options

For the more than a third of Wisconsin residents who do not drive a car, there are still multiple ways to get to the polls for the upcoming Nov. 5 election. Nonprofit organizations and even Uber and Lyft are offering free and discounted transportation to polling places across Milwaukee and Wisconsin.

Here are some options if you need a ride to the polls on election day.

Milwaukee County Department of Aging

MCDA will provide seniors that live in Milwaukee County with a free ride to polling places on Election Day, and to Wisconsin DMV locations for obtaining photo ID. Rides must be reserved 7 to 14 days in advance. Hours of the voter transportation service are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To access rides, call 414-289-6874.

Souls to the Polls

Souls to the Polls, an organization dedicated to increasing voter turnout, is providing free rides to the polls during early voting and on Election Day.

To schedule a free ride for the 2024 general election, call its hotline number at 414-742-1060. Callers are encouraged to schedule ahead of time and leave a message at the voicemail. For questions about the program, you can contact 917-501-1922 or email *****@*****.tld.

Milwaukee County Transit System

MCTS is not offering any discounted or free transportation on Election Day, said spokesperson Anna Schryver. To plan your route to your polling place, you can find the MCTS bus schedule here.

Bublr Bikes

Bublr Bikes, Milwaukee bikeshare program, is providing free rides for the first 30 minutes on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., a spokesperson confirmed. You can find a list of docking stations here.

Uber and Lyft

Using the Uber app, you’ll see a ‘Go Vote!’ tile on the home screen, which will be able to show you your polling place. From there, you can request a ride to go vote, which will be 50% off (up to $10).

Lyft is offering discounted rideshare and scooters to the polls on Election Day, according to a statement released Oct. 16. The rideshare company is offering a 50% discount (up to $10) on Election Day rides to the polls. Preload the code, VOTE24, on or before Nov. 5, and it will be valid from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. in every time zone and can be used on rideshare, bikeshare or scooter rides.
