God of War Faces Major Setback at Amazon, But That’s Good News for Fans Awaiting Another ‘The Last of Us’ Success

A God of War TV adaptation has been in the works ever since God of War 2018’s release. There have been multiple people involved with the adaptation, including industry giants Amazon and Sony.

However, lately, it seems like Amazon has left the game’s hand for something else. The development has come to a halt. This recent shift in dynamics might just serve as the ingredients for The Last of Us‘ success in the future since its biggest competition seems to have been disqualified from the race.

HBO’s The Last of Us was extremely successful upon release. The fanbase for the game’s universe increased massively. It reached and resonated with people who have nothing or very little to do with video games. This was great news for Naughty Dog as well as Sony. The show will be releasing its second season in early 2025.

However, the show was not always meant to be. There were earlier talks regarding adapting the game into a movie instead. This might sound like a setback, but it might be the best thing for the franchise since this way it will be able to stay relevant for longer.

Now, ever since a God of War TV adaptation came into picture it was believed to do really well in the market since it is one of the longest running game franchise in the world and already has a lot of fans. However, according to recent reports by deadline, the showrunner/executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with EPs Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, seems to have abandoned the project after completing the scripts for season 1. This is a major set back for all the God of War fans but a ray of hope for people awaiting another The Last of Us success.

The Future of A God of War Tv Adaptation Looks Uncertain

It would be amazing to see the world of God of War expanding to TV since it is one of those games that has a lot to say. The lore of the game is extensive and includes the most interesting character arc of its protagonist Kratos.

The actual reason for scrapping the scripts for the game is still unclear. Sony and Amazon are apparently looking towards establishing a completely new writers room for the game, which will take the production 2 years back.

However, not all is bad if you are a The Last of Us fan. Season 2 of the series is all set to debut early next year following the huge success of Season 1. There is no doubt that people are enjoying the world of The Last of Us. There is still time when we can say similar things about God of War.
