Danielle Laidley’s AFLW player ratings: Every West Coast Eagle and Fremantle Docker ranked after round seven

AFL expert Danielle Laidley runs the rule over every West Coast Eagle and Fremantle Docker after round seven of AFLW.

Here’s who starred and who struggled.

FREMANTLE (v West Coast)

1. Mim Strom: 10

A stunning performance in the ruck with 48 hit-outs and around the ground with 15 touches. Took on and beat the three West Coast rucks.

2. Aisling McCarthy: 9

Was strong on the inside with five clearances and 11 tackles, then worked hard on the outside with 543 metres gained.

3. Gabby Newton: 8

Worked hard in the midfield for six inside-50s and five score involvements, along with 12 big tackles.

4. Emma O’Driscoll: 8

Played with intensity at half-back with seven intercept possessions. Also won many important ground balls.

5. Jae Flynn: 8

Tagged as a forward, keeping the dangerous Charlie Thomas from providing her important run and rebound. Very impressive role.

6. Jess Low: 8

Tagged Ella Roberts all game, putting her under enormous pressure in the midfield and not allowing any run and carry. Did struggle as a defender with Roberts’ marking ability.

7. Gabby Biedenweg–Webster: 8

Excellent work-rate leading high up the ground and working back to the goal square. Her leading was a feature as she finished with 2.1.

8. Ash Brazill: 7

Solid in defence. Spent time on the dangerous Kellie Gibson, keeping her under wraps.

9. Dana East: 7

Won 10 touches in the midfield, doing her best work around stoppages with six clearances and five tackles.

10. Orlagh Lally: 6

Again played with width and pushed forward to great effect, hitting up into space. Kicked the game-breaking goal with a smart snap.

11. Laura Pugh: 6

Her five intercept possessions were solid and she then used the ball well coming out of defence.

12. Megan Kauffman: 6

Won plenty of ball in the contest in a solid performance in the midfield.

WEST COAST (v Fremantle)

1. Bella Lewis: 9

An amazing game. She did it all, winning 26 touches, five inside-50s, seven clearances and her work-rate to run and spread was remarkable. Perhaps could of used the ball better at times.

Awesome game across the half-back line, gaining 12 intercept possessions and three inside-50s in a penetrating game.

3. Alison Drennan: 7

Had 20 disposals and 11 tackles, showing great intent and work-rate across four quarters.

4. Ella Roberts: 6

Her performance was dampened by a Jess Low tag. She had 16 under-pressure possessions, went forward and took two strong marks, but missed two early chances to put West Coast back in the game. Never gave up, working hard despite the attention. Laid seven great tackles.

5. Emma Swanson: 6

Was good defensively when West Coast were under pressure, with five intercept possessions. Could have been more damaging with the ball.

6. Jaide Britton: 6

Worked far and wide on a wing to gather 16 touches. Found space for important uncontested touches.

9. Abbygail Bushby: 5

Had 10 disposals penetrating forward-50 four times and also having over 200 metres gained.

10. Amy Franklin: 5

Was better as the game progressed. Took a strong mark and goaled to give her confidence, then attacked the ball in big contests.

Looked to go to Aisling McCarthy in the first quarter before playing forward for the rest of the game. Had a snap on goal from a smart forward-50 clearance.

12. Mikayla Western: 4

Used her great pace as a high forward, gaining seven touches, but didn’t use the ball to her team’s advantage.

16. Beth Schilling: 4

Under pressure during the game and not at her intercepting best.

17. Courtney Rowley: 3
