Jackson Hopper, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, 22-year-old Ellie Young was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Visitor Center at Shelby Farms.

Witnesses said that they saw Young’s Jeep parked in a parking space on the lot.

A white Honda CRV with Kentucky temp tags pulled behind her vehicle. The suspect, now known as Hopper, allegedly fired two shots into the back of the Jeep.

As the Young exited the Jeep, Hopper allegedly fired at least one more shot into the victim as she laid on the ground.

According to the affidavit, Young had recently broken up with Hopper.

Officials say that after fleeing the scene of the crime, he led law enforcement on a multi-county chase that concluded after he crashed in Dyer County.

When he was arrested, deputies found a handgun in his car.

SCSO said that more charges may be forthcoming as the investigation remains ongoing.
