Telethon 2024: 150 volunteers built six cubby houses in just a few hours

With paintbrushes in hand and tool kits at the ready, 150 volunteers pulled off an incredible feat at the Telethon Family Festival to construct six cubby houses in just a few hours — all to transform the lives of children in need.

The mammoth effort was pulled off by Build Now Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping WA families, which partnered with Telethon to make the heart-warming project a reality.

Despite challenging weather conditions, including rain and wind, volunteers persevered to complete the cubby houses, providing children with safe and fun spaces to play.

Build Now Foundation managing director Stephen Mansfield expressed his gratitude for the volunteers.

“We’ve had 150 volunteers come down to support the building of our foundation. Honestly, it’s been chaos but a good chaos,” he said.

“The Build Now Foundation was actually inspired by Telethon. We’re all about helping people in need, that’s our ethos, that’s what we’re all about.

“We are builders by trade, and we’re creating so many different projects and building spaces. It’s great to give back.”

The children involved in the project were able to choose the design and colours for their cubby houses, adding a personal touch to each creation.

A disco ball was installed in a light pink and brown barn-like cubby that was made for a visually impaired girl named Lauren.

Mr Mansfield said he had fond memories of watching Telethon growing up and said it was great to be a part of the charity event with his three children.
