Telethon weekend begins with a mega conga line with celebrities and Fat Cat

West Aussies are gearing up for a Telethon to remember as festivities officially started on Friday, and Fat Cat kicked things off at RAC Arena.

The Telethon weekend began in spectacular fashion, with a celebrity-packed conga line that travelled from Subiaco to the arena.

Nova’s Nathan, Nat, and Shaun launched the conga live on-air — heading up the line at the station’s home in Subiaco.

They picked up a raft of celebrities on the way, who were raring to go for the fundraising extravaganza, including Ant Middleton, Premier Roger Cook and Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti.

Issa Schultz from The Chase and Channel 7 presenters Michael Usher and Rick Ardon also joined in.

Telethon superstar Fat Cat surprised the group by joining for the last 500m before setting off a buzzer to officially mark the beginning of the Telethon weekend.

Nova 93.7 also handed $5000 to Fat Cat to get the fundraising ball rolling and delivering for kids doing it tough in WA.

Nat Locke said it was incredible to see how much the WA community comes together on Telethon weekend to support kids in need.

“Turns out conga-ing your way from Subiaco to RAC Arena is a great way to kick off Telethon,” she said.

“It really just blows us away with how incredibly generous the WA community is, and it’s for such a good cause.”

Telethon has been marked in WA calendars since 1968 and has raised more than $600 million to date.

Now supporting 136 beneficiaries, its growth year on year has made it synonymous with the State.

The incredible number of donations raised each year helps organisations deliver life-changing programs, fund important medical research into childhood diseases, purchase essential equipment for sick kids, and more.

And the Four Little Telethon Stars at the centre of it all are ready to bring a smile, laugh and the overwhelming feeling of generosity as they let encourage people to dig deep.

Florence Shanks, 4, Nate Fearnall, 8, Nazeem Fahmi, 8, and Charlee Hosking, 10, have beaten incredible odds and will be the face of Telethon this year.

It’s expected to be a weekend full of fun and excitement, with stellar performances lined up from Samantha Jade, Guy Sebastian and Vanessa Amorosi, and top-quality entertainment and couch chats with special guests such as SAS Australia guru Ant Middleton, The Chase team and other much-loved Channel 7 stars.

And the Telethon Family Festival will also be back for another year as it takes over the CBD on Sunday with free rides, carnival games and entertainment.

The 26-hour fundraising extravaganza will officially start at 7pm on Saturday night at RAC Arena and be broadcast live on Channel 7 and 7-plus as all involved get ready to beat last year’s fundraising record of $77.5m.
