A Hellboy: The Crooked Man Epic Premiere & Review

As a long-awaited addition to the Hellboy franchise, Hellboy: The Crooked Man promised to breathe new life into Mike Mignola’s iconic character, and it delivered something different as well as captured the comic book as best it could, the film had a different tone to the other Hellboy films in terms of atmosphere, a darker more dread driven adaption.

One thing that wasn’t dark and filled with dread was the amazing premiere experience we had at the Nu Metro Fan Screening from the amazing cosplay to the once-in-a-lifetime marriage proposal that occurred before the show – this premiere had it all…if you want to be part of any future shows be sure to join our WhatsApp group and you too could partake in all the awesomeness that is Nu Metro.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man Review

Now that we have covered the awesomeness we experienced at the Premiere, let’s get to the review of Hellboy: The Crooked Man, in The Crooked Man, Jack Kesy stars as the beloved BPRD agent, taking Hellboy and his partner Bobbie Jo Song (played by Adeline Rudolph) on a 1950s adventure. After a train accident involving a very large spider leaves them stranded in a small Appalachian community, the duo encounters a demonic figure tied to the area’s Witch dilemma. The enigmatic Crooked Man also holds a mysterious link to Hellboy’s past as they strive to find their way back home.

I liked Hellboy: The Crooked Man, despite its flaws. I’m crossing my fingers for another installment because I’m a big fan of the comic books. Watching Hellboy deal with so many issues in a “quiet” Appalachian community was a great experience, and I’d love to see the character confront injustices in different periods and places.

There are still many thrilling confrontations, but they primarily come in surreal dialogues rich in horror elements rather than traditional action scenes, which we are so used to. That said, there are some standout battles. I especially enjoyed an intense sequence featuring undead people and a holy shovel, though such moments are rare overall it had most of what Hellboy is and if you like the comics you will enjoy multiple aspects of this film.

Catch Hellboy: The Crooked Man in cinemas now.
