Helldivers 2 Fan Submits Bug Report in Character: Arrowhead Acknowledges It in Character

In the vast expanse of Super Earth’s bureaucracy in Helldivers 2, one brave Helldiver dared to file a bug report unlike any other. Instead of the usual dry technical jargon, this intrepid soldier chose to stay in character, detailing the harrowing experiences of civilians during evacuation missions with all the gravitas of a seasoned war hero.

But what happened next would make even the most stoic Helldiver crack a smile. Arrowhead Game Studios, the masterminds behind Helldivers 2, decided to play along. Their response wasn’t just a simple acknowledgment – it was a full-blown, in-character missive that would make any Super Earth propaganda officer proud.

A Bug Report Worthy of Super Earth’s Finest

When it comes to bug reports, most developers expect a straightforward list of issues and steps to reproduce. But Helldivers 2 isn’t most games, and its community isn’t your average group of players. One fan decided to take things to the next level by submitting a bug report entirely in character as a Helldiver.

The report, shared on Reddit, reads like a formal military complaint from “Skull Admiral Anothermisfit, Commander, SES Bringer of Democracy.” It details “alarming instances of civilian non-compliance during the evacuation process” on Imber, including civilians walking through flames and exhibiting behavior that led to their “tragic demise as they were burned alive.”

I reported a bug in character and got a response in character.. Fantastic Arrowhead, thank you!

The community’s reaction was swift and overwhelmingly positive. One Redditor summed it up perfectly:

But the real kicker came when Arrowhead’s support team decided to respond in kind.

Not to be outdone, Arrowhead‘s support team crafted a response that could have come straight from the desk of a Super Earth bureaucrat.

SEAF Support Officer Zach acknowledged the “concerning lack of care or respect for the sacrifices our Helldivers are making,” and even suggested that the civilians’ strange behavior might be the result of “something known as a ‘fear response.’”

The response included a detailed list of observed civilian behaviors, such as “Being rooted to the spot or outright issuing a verbal refusal to move” and “Water-like substance coming from the eyes.” It concluded with a chilling reminder of Super Earth’s dedication to democracy:

Do not be alarmed if any family members or loved ones go missing for days/weeks/months/years/an indeterminable amount of time as this is standard procedure for the Ministry of Truth’s investigation.

This level of commitment to the game’s satirical tone didn’t go unnoticed by the community:

It’s this kind of interaction that helps build a strong bond between developers and players. As another fan pointed out:

Arrowhead’s willingness to engage with their community in such a creative way has certainly earned them some goodwill. And who knows? Maybe this bug report will become part of Helldivers lore:

In a galaxy full of bugs (both the game-breaking and alien varieties), it’s refreshing to see a developer that can tackle issues with a sense of humor that perfectly matches that of its playerbase.

So, the next time you encounter a glitch in Helldivers 2, consider channeling your inner Helldiver. Who knows? You might just get a response worthy of the archives, signed off with a patriotic “May Lady Liberty light your path forevermore.”
