Crash that closed southbound Route 1 in Milford has been cleared. Highway open

A crash that closed southbound Route 1 in Milford for hours Thursday afternoon has been cleared.

Few details are known about the crash that was reported just before noon on Delaware Department of Transportation’s social media. But as of 2 p.m., DelDOT reported the roadway fully open.

Smoke billows from behind a treeline where a crash on Thursday shut southbound Route 1 in Milford.

DelDOT’s X account said southbound Route 1 closed at NE Front Street in Milford just before noon.

DelDOT video showed a long line of stopped vehicles on Route 1 with a plume of smoke billowing from behind a treeline where emergency vehicles were stopped about 12:05 p.m.

Some motorists stuck on southbound Route 1 could be seen on DelDOT cameras turning around and making their way off the highway on Silicato Parkway.

Motorists stranded on southbound Route 1 since a crash closed the roadway around noon are starting to use Silicato Parkway to get off the closed road.
