Future Council eco-warriors set for Gracetown beach clean-up this weekend

A beach clean-up organised for this weekend has changed location, but volunteers are still needed to help protect the region’s coastline.

The Margaret River Future Council effort will now focus on Gracetown to avoid doubling up on an existing volunteer event planned for Ellensbrook.

The group, which aims to rope in more junior members for an ongoing committee looking at tangible actions to help protect and conserve the region’s environment, will set up at Gracetown Beach on Saturday, October 12, at 1pm.

The young volunteers have completed two deep cleans around Rotary Park and welcomed new members “ready to roll up their sleeves and make a positive impact on our beautiful coastline,” group co-ordinator and local mum Leanne Cordero said.

“We’re thrilled to invite all local environmental warriors to join us for our next event,” she said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, protect our local environment and ensure future generations can enjoy the pristine beaches we’re so fortunate to have.”

Margaret River Primary School student Jasmine Cordero said there was a buzz of excitement among the new group’s members.

“I have had so much fun in helping start up our own local future council,” she said.

“I love spending time in nature and really love being down at the beach.

“I was pumped when I found out we get to look after Gracetown Beach which is home to one of my local heroes, Bronte Macaulay. The beach is one of my favourite places as it makes me feel happy and calm.”

To confirm attendance and find out more about the future council, volunteers are asked to email *****@*****.tld.

There were still chances to get involved in efforts at other beaches as part of Tangaroa Blue’s annual WA Beach Clean-Up from October 11 to 14.
