After defeating the demigod, you will get this strange addition to your inventory, which you must use at a particular point on the map. But if you cannot figure out where we have you covered in this guide.

1. Reach the West Rampart Site of Grace

West Rampart’s Site of Grace will be your journey’s first beacon.

The first step to take if one wants to use Messmer’s Kindling in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is to get to the West Rampart Site of Grace. It will loosely be located at the marker shown in the image embedded above.

After reaching the West Rampart Site of Grace, ignore the prompt to rest there and keep going forward. Enter the smaller door present on the right of the bigger one.

2. Reach Viaduct Minor Tower

The path ahead is long and will be full of trials and tribulations, tread with caution.

Once you enter the door on the right, you will need to head to the Viaduct Minor Tower, Call forth your steed and keep moving across the bridge. Ignore the life forms you come across and they shall leave you be.

As you keep moving across the bridge, you will see an entrance, guarded by an enemy wearing a red hood. Walk past the enemy and enter the hall in front of you.

Be on the lookout and notice the blue illumination on the floor.

Once done, take a sharp left and you will see another entrance. As you enter the hallway you will see blue illumination on the floor, that’s how you will know that you are on the right path.

Get off your steed and walk up the staircase which will be right in front of you. You will reach a wooden platform suspended with chains that starts elevating. You will see a structure that looks like an open fort entrance. As you move forward you will find Lost Grace.

Touch it if you have discovered the site for the first time. Now you will have successfully reached the Viaduct Minor tower and are one step closer to knowing how to use Messmer’s Kindling in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

3. Reach Rauh Ancient Ruins East

Enter this dungeon but do not worry as all the enemies inside can be evaded and you won’t have to engage with any of them.

Move forward and through the opened gate in front of you. Walk down the staircase and call forth your steed once again. After reaching ground level, head northeast and under the fallen tree. Soon you will cross another fallen tree. Keep true until you reach two pillars parallel to each other with a burning cauldron.

Take a sharp right and enter the dungeon marked by the two cauldrons. Keep true until you reach a wall and then take a sharp right to enter through another facade, marked similarly by cauldrons.

Tip

You might see some apparitions carrying pots on their heads, ignore them and they won’t do you any harm.

As you go further you will see a partially opened gate you can’t cross. Take a left and keep going forward. You will reach a giant burning goblet, forming a crevice in the ground.

Trust your instinct and go into the crevice. Turn left and enter the partially open door and keep true. Once again, you will reach a ledge that you can leap from. Get to the lower ground by jumping from the ledge with your steed.

You will pass two of these twin arches one after the other.

Keep moving forward until you reach a carved wall. Take a left keep going and cross an arch-like structure. Take a sharp left. You will then see two twin arches beside each other.

Enter the right one and keep true to your path. As you keep moving forward, you will find another site of grace you can touch. To discover the site, touch it by pressing the required button.

4. Reach Rauh Ancient Ruins West

There is still a long way to go, my friend. Yee-haw!

Getting to the Sealed Tree won’t be a short path in Shadow of the Erdtree. After reaching the previous site of grace, take a left and leap to get to lower ground as shown in the image above.

Keep true until you reach another ledge and make your way to the platform below it, too. Climb up the staircase and move through the arches in front of you.

Tip

You will see a gigantic fire monster here, evade his attacks and follow the path mentioned in the guide.

You will see a waterfall as you move northwest after entering a swampy area. Move towards it and then climb up the lake shore.

Keep moving forward and climb up the platform to reach another site of grace. This will ensure that you have enough beacons on the map during your Shadow of the Erdtree playthrough.

5. Reach Churhc of Bud Main Entrance

Enter this area and then look for two parallel cauldrons marking an entrance.

Only a couple of checkpoints remain and very soon you will understand how to use Messmer’s Kindling. Move forward and take the left entrance. You will soon find two burning cauldrons marking an entrance leading to a staircase.

Climb up the staircase and take your first left. Follow the path to reach a platform that will begin to ascend as soon as you (or your steed) set foot on it. As soon as you reach ground level, move towards North West.

Exit the coliseum-like structure and get to open ground.

Keep going until you reach an open coliseum-like structure. Keep going in the same direction and you will find another entrance marked by two blazing cauldrons.

Make your way inside, evade enemy attacks, and climb up the staircase which has red-colored stones on its sides. Soon you will find another site of grace that you can discover.

Defeating Romina, Saint of the Bud

After following all these steps, you should ideally reach this site of grace.

This is where you will end up after following the guide. Before you can reach the place where you can use Messmer’s Kindling in Shadow of the Erdtree, you would have to defeat Romina.

Tip

Romina has amazing reach but that also makes them vulnerable to attacks after you dodge their initial strikes. Roll to evade and then strike them.

Once you get that glorious ‘Legend Felled‘ show up on your screen, you will see another side of grace. Touch it to place the ‘Church of the Bud‘ site of grace on your map.

Use Messmer’s Kindling to Burn the Sealing Tree

See the staircase and the faint silhouette of a tree? That is your destination.

This is the final step and you will now know how to use Messmer’s Kindling to Burn the Sealing Tree in Elden Ring. After killing Romina, you will find a staircase close to their corpse.

Walk up the staircase and you shall see the sealing tree. Press the required key to examine it and then you will have the option to burn it. This will then trigger a cutscene and transport you to Inir Ilim’s Outer Wall.
