Grand Theft Hamlet is Exactly as Unhinged as it Sounds

After facing a monumental leak in 2022, Rockstar Games ended up giving us our first look at Grand Theft Auto 6 with an epic trailer in December 2024. The 1-minute and 33-second trailer for GTA 6 went on to create history, being viewed well over 213 million times at the time of writing.

We’re almost approaching the trailer’s one-year anniversary, and Rockstar is still radio-silent about the next reveal. While gamers are desperate to see more of GTA 6, things are getting unhinged for its predecessor, GTA 5, as somehow, William Shakespeare’s Hamlet has found its way to the title.

Grand Theft Hamlet– a Movie Shot Entirely in GTA 5

Grand Theft Hamlet is about as crazy of a blend the title would make you believe. It’s a documentary that presents the life of Sam Crane and Mark Oosterveen, two actors who were left jobless at the peak of the pandemic and decided to put together a live-streamed production of William Shakespeare’s iconic Hamlet in GTA 5.

The entire documentary has been filmed inside Grand Theft Auto 5, despite the real-world narrative presented. It’s quite similar to the ‘machinima’ genre of videos that took YouTube by storm in the 2010s, with Rooster Teeth’s Ted vs Blue being the most popular one. However, this isn’t some makeshift project, as big names are attached to the film.

It’s a chaotic journey from the get-go, but the directors’ commitment to putting Shakespeare with sincerity and integrity holds strong amid the mayhem of the Grand Theft Auto world. Mubi has managed to acquire the rights to distribute the documentary not just in the US but also globally. It will soon debut internationally as a subscription video-on-demand offering.

It’s been more than a decade since the release of GTA 5, and the industry is still pushing the limits of the critically-acclaimed game with such interesting projects. It’s going to be exciting to see what the industry manages to achieve with GTA 6, which is supposed to be Rockstar’s biggest game ever.

The Next GTA 6 Trailer is Closer Than You Think

As we’ve said before, we’re approaching the one-year anniversary of GTA 6‘s first trailer. While there’s still no confirmation from Take-Two Interactive or Rockstar, gamers are theorizing that history might end up repeating itself as Take-Two has confirmed a new quarterly earnings call that’s supposed to happen on November 6th.

If this repeats the same tradition as 2023, Rockstar might give fans the release date for GTA 6‘s second trailer just like it did last year. However, the studio is still silent about the project until it’s ready to push out more, so it’s crucial to keep your expectations in check.

The last earnings call for Take-Two Interactive happened in August. Although we didn’t get anything new, it did confirm the upcoming game’s 2025 Fall release window. While Rockstar has previously stated that the time will be launched in the last months of 2025, rumors suggested that the title has been delayed till 2026.

Even though there’s still no release date for the second GTA 6 trailer, there’s a high chance we’ll hear Take-Two discuss the game to a great degree during the call.

With that said, would you like to see the directors bring Hamle to the upcoming GTA 6 as well? Let us know in the comments below!
