Destruction in Florida as Milton makes landfall

Hurricane Milton battered Florida leaving a trail of destruction as winds reached a speed of 120mph (205km/h) in parts of the state.

Tornadoes also caused severe damage particularly on the Atlantic Coast, reports the BBC’s North America Correspondent, Tom Bateman.

In St. Petersburg, the roof of Tropicana Field stadium was torn off due to the strong winds. It was being used as a shelter for first responders but there were no reported injuries, according to local media.

The hurricane also triggered huge waves in the Gulf of Mexico.
