Mayking man accused of sexually assaulting 4 children: ‘It was an accident’

MAYKING, Ky. (FOX 56) — A man from Mayking was charged with multiple accounts of sexual abuse stemming from alleged events in late September.

According to court documents, the Kentucky State Police Department (KSP) Post 13 responded to a call just before 7:45 p.m. on Sept. 28 from a woman who said 56-year-old Stephen Maggard of Mayking, had allegedly touched a child inappropriately.

When KSP arrived at the 300 block of Around the Mountain Road, troopers talked to the victim’s mother and then to the victim herself.

According to a uniform citation, the victim told troopers that she and Maggard were sitting on a trampoline and talking when he allegedly pulled her down and “stuck his hand down the top of her pants, going under her skirt and her underwear.”

Another alleged victim then came to KSP and told troopers that Maggard had allegedly been “smacking her butt” while she was on a swing, court documents showed. Another child then told law enforcement at the scene that Maggard had also allegedly touched her inappropriately on a trampoline, and said he was “going to kill everyone there except her,” according to a KSP report.

After this conversation, authorities said a boy came to troopers at the scene and told KSP that Maggard had taken one of the boy’s shoes off and licked his foot while he was on a swing, and also allegedly told the boy he was going to “kill everyone there.”
