Cameron Green set to miss The West Test at Optus Stadium against India

Allrounder Cam Green appears set to miss at least the first match of Australia’s Test series against India this summer.

There are growing fears Cricket Australia are set to confirm the West Australian quick is battling stress fractures in coming days and are working through a timeline for his recovery.

The West Australian understands Green is set to be ruled out of The West Test at Optus Stadium from November 22.

Green was sent for scans late last week after returning home early from Australia’s white-ball tour of England.

The 25-year-old is in Perth and has spent time at the WACA Ground during Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield match this week as a call on his fitness looms.

Green’s looming absence raises concerns over Australia’s bowling loads, with fellow allrounder Mitch Marsh parked from bowling during the first round of first-class matches.

Nathan Lyon is tipped to carry a heavy load with the ball as staff nurse Australia’s big three quicks through a five-Test series.

Eyes will also turn a suite of opening batters in domestic cricket, knocking down the door for selection.

It appears Steve Smith no longer wants the role and Green’s absence would open the door for him to slide back to No.4.

WA’s Cam Bancroft made an untimely golden duck from the very first ball of their clash with Queensland on Tuesday, while Victorian rival Marcus Harris plundered 143 on a batter’s paradise for Victoria at Junction Oval.

But Test great Mike Hussey is among those calling for Bancroft — and shield teammate Sam Whiteman — be considered from an opening spot.

Whiteman made a marathon century on Tuesday, dragging WA from 2-0 after three overs into the ascendancy over the Bulls.

“He played so well, took the sting out of it,” fellow century-maker Josh Inglis said of Whiteman.

“It could have been so easy to throw his wicket away when things probably weren’t going his way.

“They bowled really well at him today and I thought he combated it really well.”
