BioWare has detailed the five designed difficulty modes for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and no, they aren’t named traditionally as easy, normal, and hard. Additionally, the RPG will offer up an Unbound option that lets players craft their own difficulty setting.

A new accessibility spotlight journal for Dragon Age: The Veilguard explained that players can choose from five curated difficulties during character creation: Storyteller, Keeper, Adventurer, Underdog, and Nightmare. Storyteller lives up to its namesake, as it focuses on seamlessly delivering the game’s story rather than challenging combat, while there’s no going back from Nightmare unless a new game is started. Keeper is intriguing because it’s about “party composition and equipment choices over reaction times.” Meanwhile, Adventurer means getting a handle on all three. Last but not least, Underdog seems to equate to a traditional hard mode.

Unbound is where players can go to tinker with everything to create their personal difficulty mode. However, BioWare recommends one of the five settings above for first-time players in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The developer also notes that there are combat options to tinker with even after choosing difficulty. For example, enemy aggressiveness and aim assist can be altered in the RPG.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard will also feature some “spicy” romances, with a dev teasing players that they could “wake up in a coffin.” There are apparently seven different romanceable companions, and here’s everything we know about those characters.

Last week, Dragon Age: The Veilguard went gold, meaning the game is ready to launch October 31. It’s the first new mainline entry in the RPG series since Dragon Age Inquisition in 2014. Not only are preorders for Dragon Age: The Veilguard already available, but fans can also reserve some elegant collectibles.
