West Australian favourite Curtis Luck to make injury return at WA Open of Golf

WA favourite Curtis Luck will take his career full circle when he returns from injury at next week’s WA Open.

The 28-year-old from Cottesloe, who won the event as an amateur in 2016 before claiming the US Amateur title the same year, is the latest big name to be confirmed in the field at Mandurah Country Club.

After his 2024 season on America’s Korn Ferry Tour was largely derailed by a serious shoulder injury, Luck said he was well on the way to recovery and raring to go for his home vent.

“After being injured for the last four months, the WA Open sits at a perfect time to see how my rehab is progressing,” Luck said.

“The WA Open was my first exposure to playing professional golf, so I’m looking forward to playing in it once again. It would be wishful thinking but fingers crossed I can repeat the 2016 result, this time a pro.”

Luck, a former world No.1 amateur before turning pro in 2017, is a winner on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020 and made headlines in the last Australian summer after acing the “party hole” at Royal Queensland GC during the Australian PGA Championship.

Luck’s announcement comes following DP World Tour stars Jason Scrivener and Haydn Barron confirming their participation in the 100th staging of the championship.

“We’re very fortunate to have players of the calibre of Curtis, Jason and Haydn playing in the WA Open this year,” GolfWA CEO Gary Thomas said. “All three are outstanding talents and I would urge golf fans to leap at this opportunity to see them in action up close at Mandurah Country Club.”

The Bowra & O’Dea Nexus Advisernet WA Open takes place at Mandurah Country Club from October 17-20.

Spectators can attend for free.
