West Coast have appointed Andrew McQualter as their new coach and it could be announced as soon as Monday.

According to AFL reporter for 7NEWS Mitch Cleary, who broke the news on social media, McQualter edged out Collingwood assistant Hayden Skipworth and Geelong assistant Steven King.

It is a major role for McQualter, who missed out on the Tigers job on a full-time basis in 2023 and subsequently left to join Melbourne as an assistant coach.

He will now head west for his first genuine shot at moulding a club in his image.

The consequences of his appointment will come thick and fast, with the Eagles courting Tigers duo Liam Baker and Jack Graham.

There are also significant decisions to be at the draft, which starts on October 7.

More to come.
