Sony announces multiple PlayStation movies

Sony Productions announced that multiple film adaptations of PlayStation IPs are in the works. These include last years smash hit Helldivers, as well as Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima.

The announcement came from head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash who take the stage at Sony’s CES 2025 press conference.

The Helldivers movie has been said to be a collaboration between Sony Pictures and Sony Productions in order to bring the Starship Troopers inspired world to the big screen. Helldivers 2 saw massive success when it released last year. The game sold 12 million copies in just 12 weeks and became the fastest selling PlayStation Studios title to date. No further details about the movie were revealed.

The same can be said for the Horizon movie, with the only information revealed being that Columbia Pictures will be producing the film. Ghost of Tsushima’s adaptation surprisingly has had the most details revealed. The adaptation will be an anime series, the first for a PlayStation video game, and will be developed in collaboration with Aniplex to be released on Crunchyroll in 2027. It will not follow the main game’s story of Jin Sakai’s crusade against the Mongol, but will instead focus on the game’s multiplayer mode, Legends. The series will be directed by Takanobu Mizuno, story composition by Gen Urobuchi, and animation by Kamikaze Doug, with Sony Music ‘assisting as a strategic music and sound partner’.
