‘Big hit’: Black Friday frenzy boosts retail sales in November

Bargain hunters have boosted retail sales in November as they take advantage of the Black Friday frenzy.

The 0.8 per cent rise in retail turnover in November followed a 0.6 per cent growth in October, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday.

“Black Friday sales events proved once again to be a big hit, with widespread discounting and higher spending across all retail industries,” ABS head of business statistics Robert Ewing said.

“The popularity of Black Friday sales continues to grow with promotional activity now stretching across the entire month of November, not just solely focused on the Black Friday weekend.”

There were rises in all retail industries in November.
