Jamie Nold named next superintendent for South Dakota’s largest school district

Jamie Nold has been named the Sioux Falls School District’s next superintendent.

Nold has served as the district’s assistant superintendent for the last nine years under superintendents Pam Homan, Brian Maher and Jane Stavem. Stavem announced her resignation in October, effective June 30. Stavem has been with the district since summer 2020.

School board president Carly Reiter said results from the board’s selected search firm, Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates, heard from 2,300 community members in a survey and received 72 pages worth of comments about what qualities they’d like to see in the next superinendent.

Reiter said the firm heard nearly 300 times directly that community members specifically named Nold as who they’d like to see lead the district.

Nold has worked in the district for 30 years. He began his career as a teacher in Watertown for three years before coming to Sioux Falls’ Washington High School as a teacher and coach, then assistant principal at Lincoln High School, principal of Washington High School and the past nine years as assistant superintendent of administrative services.

His official start date is July 1.
