Multiple major roads have been shut following the crash, with a Victoria Department of Planning and Transport confirming Ballarat Rd and Smithfield Rd were closed between Geelong Rd, Footscray and Smithfield Rd, as well as Moore St between Hopkins St and Ballarat Rd.

“We ask drivers to avoid the area, where possible, using a combination of Barkly St, Hopkins St and Dynon Rd through Footscray, or Farnsworth Ave, Fisher Parade and Epsom Road past the Showgrounds,” the spokesperson said.

“Traffic delays are likely to continue through the morning peak as emergency services conduct investigations.

“Lanes will re-open only when investigations are complete and it’s safe to do so.

“Our signals team is monitoring conditions in the area and will adjust traffic lights to minimise congestion on surrounding roads.”
