Initially, Microsoft stated that its plans to make future Xbox games exclusive would be on a case-by-case basis. However, reports suggest that in 2025, all of the Xbox titles will be making their way to PS5 consoles for reasons that prove that Microsoft has given up against Sony.

As we’ve said before, Microsoft has already brought tons of Xbox games to rival platforms such as PlayStation and Nintendo. You might think that the company would put brakes on this practice and save some titles for its own brand of consoles. However, that’s not the case.

According to Serkan Toto from Kantan Games, Microsoft will be leaning more toward this model. In an interview with GI.biz, Toto said that Microsoft is porting all major Xbox games due to a variety of reasons.

One of the major reasons is the $69 billion Activision Blizzard purchase, which turned out to be the biggest acquisition we’ve ever seen in the video gaming industry. Microsoft wants to see gains from this deal, and limiting the games on a console that barely has any market share would be a huge loss.

Microsoft wants to deal with the rising costs of game development. It’s not like the 2000s anymore; games take years to develop and cost hundreds of millions of dollars. If the exclusive games continue to be a money sink and expensive projects, Microsoft wouldn’t be able to continue supporting them.

Also, the huge lead Sony has gained over Xbox is another factor that’s forcing Microsoft to make this move. Gamers might consider this to be a defeat for Xbox, but it’s really all about Microsoft’s commercial profitability at this point.

Back in May 2024, it was reported by Windows Central that Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella mandated an increase across all divisions, including Xbox. The only way to do this for the brand is by porting games and ending the console wars.

What’s the next Xbox game coming to PS5?

One of the biggest Xbox titles of 2024 that’s all set to release on PlayStation this year is none other than Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Even before its release, it was confirmed that the game would initially be an Xbox exclusive, but it will eventually make its way to PlayStation.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a surprising hit. No one could’ve ever expected a game that Todd Howard headed would be able to make such an impact considering all the failures that the studio has had a big hand in recent years.

Developer MachineGames has confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released on PS5 in the Spring of 2025. What’s even better is that gamers will also be able to experience The Order of Giants DLC, which is set to release this year.
