SCG Test: Indian superstar Virat Kohli falls for likely final time in Australia

Indian veteran Virat Kohli has almost certainly played his final Test innings in Australia, dismissed for just six at the Sydney Cricket Ground by Scott Boland.

The dismissal brings to an end a series where Kohli has been at the centre of more spot fires than he has played meaningful innings, with India set to defend a fourth-innings total in the fifth Test.

Kohli was caught behind by Steve Smith at second slip off the bowling of Boland, who has dismissed him five times in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Boland took all of India’s first three wickets before debutant Beau Webster dismissed Shubman Gill for 13.

That came while Kohli was standing in as Indian captain, with Jasprit Bumrah sent for scans on a mystery injury.

Kohli was out playing at a ball on a fourth or fifth stump line, an issue that has plagued him in recent years, but ramped up during his lean campaign in Australia.

He made a second-innings century in The West Test to start the series, but will finish it with an average of just 23.75. He made just 90 runs outside that Perth innings.

The antagonist was again involved in a blow-up with Australian teenager Sam Konstas on the evening of day one, running towards the 19-year-old while he was at the non-striker’s end after Usman Khawaja was dismissed with the final ball of the third session.

That fiery incident came just days after he was docked 20 per cent of his match fee for shoulder charging Konstas on the opening morning of the Boxing Day Test.
