Charlie Cameron has pledged to stand up for Oscar McInerney on the grand final stage, as the Lions set up a changeroom reminder of their injured teammate in the lead-up to the decider.

McInerney and Cameron have featured together in all bar two games across the past two years, but the Brisbane ruckman will be a significant absentee on Saturday after suffering a dislocated shoulder.

Cameron said while Darcy Fort would help fill the hole, McInerney’s absence would be a motivator for the playing group.

“He’s been a selfless leader all year, and throughout his career at the Lions and my time here,” Cameron said on Seven upon arrival at the MCG on Saturday morning.

“Hopefully we can repay him with a premiership medal.

“It’s a big loss, but we know Forty can step in.

“We’ll be playing for him today.”

Brisbane’s changeroom featured McInerney’s No.46 jumper hanging to provide a reminder of the big man in the lead-up to the opening bounce.

Cameron is looking to make it third time lucky in this year’s decider, having booted three goals in last year’s loss to Collingwood and also featuring in Adelaide’s 2017 defeat to Richmond.

Cameron said his pre-game routine on the big day had consisted of breakfast at the team hotel, a coffee in Richmond, and a dip in the hot tub.

Sydney have their own injured star as motivation, with captain Callum Mills unable to recover in time from a hamstring injury to be passed fit.

“It was obviously a tough little period for him and the club,” Swans star Isaac Heeney said upon entry to the MCG.

“I don’t envy the coaches at all in times like that.

“We love him. He’s the ultimate professional and the ultimate leader as well.

“He’s been incredible off the field. He’s really put those emotions to the side and made sure we’re sharp and the boys are looking good. He’s excited for everyone.”
