Brianna Throssell is ready for a sleep-in.

For the past three years the Olympic swimmer has woken up at 5am to train for up to eight hours each day, spending only three weeks at home in Perth.

After achieving the highlight of her swimming career — winning gold at the Paris Olympics in the 4x200m freestyle relay alongside Mollie O’Callaghan, Lani Pallister and Ariarne Titmus — she announced that it would be her last Olympics.

What she thought would be a passing remark caused quite a buzz in the media.

“I didn’t expect one small comment to be in the news,” she told STM. “I also assumed that people didn’t think I’d be going to (the 2028 Olympics in) LA, given my age.

“I still love the sport, and I’m so passionate about it, but I don’t think my mind and body will be there in 2028.”

Of what she’s most looking forward to without the demanding training schedule, it’s sleeping in and exercising for fun, rather than pushing her body to the limit.

On top of an already massive year for Throssell, the 28-year-old arrived back in Perth with an engagement ring on her finger after now fiancé Josh Milner popped the question on the Amalfi Coast following her Olympic win.
