A modder who released a mod allowing players to bypass God of War Ragnarok‘s PSN requirement has said they’re removing it to avoid potential legal action.

Earlier this week VGC reported that a mod had been released that bypassed God of War: Ragnarok’s PSN requirement. However, following this, the mod was removed, leading many to speculate why it  had been taken down from modding sites.

Now, modding platform NexusMods has released a statement from the modder.

“Hello, that was my personal decision because the mod has got too much attention,” wrote iArtoriasUA.

“I thought that it would be better to remove it from public to avoid any potential threats from the Sony side (even though the project never modified anything memory related to Sony products, but better be safe than sorry.”

There is no suggestion that Sony has pursued any action against the mod at the time of writing. The modder appears to be doing it preemptively.

The PSN requirement for Sony’s PC ports continues to be a sore subject with players.

Earlier this year, Sony implemented the PSN requirement into a breakout hit Helldivers 2. This led to the game being delisted in 177 countries, because the PlayStation Network wasn’t available in those regions.

The news was met with huge backlash from players, and the game was hit with over 100,000 negative reviews on Steam in less than 48 hours.

Due to the reception, PlayStation delivered a U-turn and scrapped the requirement, saying it was “still learning what is best for PC players”.
