TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla (WDHN) — Residents in Taylor County, Florida, who defied mandatory evacuation orders have been instructed by the sheriff to write their name and birthday on their arm or leg so they can later be identified.

This order comes as Hurricane Helene inches closer to the Florida coast. It is expected to make landfall as a category four hurricane between the Big Bend and the panhandle.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office also instructed residents to email the following information so Search and Rescue teams can hone in on their operations:

  • Is the residence inland or on the coastline?

  • Full address of the residence

  • Your name

  • Name(s) of the resident(s) at this location

  • Number of individuals and animals present

  • Contact information for both yourself and the resident(s)

  • Any additional information, such as a recent photograph of the individual(s), disabilities, or special requirements.

Taylor County is located around one-hour southeast of Tallahassee and two-and-a-half-hours
