A three-wicket haul by spinner Todd Murphy has guided Victoria to a thrilling six-run win over Queensland in their One-Day Cup clash.

The Victorians batted first at Citipower Centre at Junction Oval on Friday, the home side reaching 7-240 from their 50 overs.

Former Test opener Marcus Harris top-scored for the Bushrangers with 63 off 93 balls, including five fours.

Some lusty late hitting by captain Will Sutherland (31 not out off 38 balls, one six) and paceman Sam Elliott (run out for 32 off 22 balls, three fours, two sixes) gave the home team a defendable total.

Former Test spinner Mitch Swepson was the pick of the Bulls’ bowling attack, claiming 3-38 off his 10 overs.

In reply the visitors seemed on track for a comfortable victory, with Test batter Usman Khawaja (57 off 72 balls, seven fours) and Ben McDermott (39 off 59, four fours, one six) putting on an opening stand of 90, before Murphy broke the partnership by picking up McDermott’s wicket.

Queensland then lost nine wickets for 115 to slip to 9-205, before bowling allrounder Michael Neser breathed new life into the run chase.

Neser, who has a habit of picking up handy runs when needed, blasted 49 off 41 balls (five fours, two sixes).

His innings took the Bulls within sight of victory, before he was the last man out as Queensland were dismissed for 234 off 49.5 overs.

Former Test spinner Murphy was named man of the match after claiming 3-38 from his 10 overs.

Murphy picked up the wickets of McDermott, Lachlan Hearne (5 off 13 balls) and Mark Steketee (10 off seven, one six).
