Stroll around Canberra markets | The West Australian

We’re in a browsing mood … and that sets us up for a stroll around the markets.

This is our pick in Canberra …

The Little Burley Market

Queen Elizabeth Terrace, Saturdays 9am to 2pm

On the shore of Lake Burley Griffin, this gourmet food and artisan market has a range of tasty treats and is near the National Gallery of Australia and National Portrait Gallery of Australia and Questacon. It’s an ideal starting point for a day of exploration.

Handmade Market Canberra – Summer

Exhibition Park in Canberra (EPIC). It is on December 13, 2024, from 5pm to 9pm — and December 14 and 15, 2024, from 10am to 4pm.

Held quarterly, the market brings together more than 250 small Australian designers and producers. There are fashion and accessories, ceramics and artworks. And there’s an indoor gourmet food and wine pavilion.

Capital Region Farmer’s Market

EPIC, Saturdays from 7am to 11.30am

This is the biggest farmer’s market in the Southern Tablelands, and a favourite with locals. There are more than 100 stallholders, selling everything from honey and vegetables to nitrate-free bacon. There’s usually live music and stuff to nibble on.

Haig Park Village Markets

Braddon, Sundays from 8am to 2pm

In a green park, in the walkable suburb of Braddon, there’s fresh market, coffee and locally-made wares. It’s a nice place to dip into the culinary delights on offer.

Old Bus Depot Markets

Kingston, Sundays from 9.30am to 2.30pm

This one’s a classic, with artisan baked goods, local produce and handmade items. You can plan to have breakfast or lunch here before wandering Kingston’s interesting shops and foreshore.

Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets

Fyshwick from Thursday to Sunday, 7am to 5.30pm

This is the city’s oldest market. They opened in 1967. There are more than 25 specialty shops, including delicatessens and bakeries, cafes and seafood.
