Perth father Glen Cahill leaves hospital more than a week after alleged attack left him fighting for life

A WA dad left fighting for life after an alleged one-punch attack outside a waterfront venue on Melbourne Cup day has been discharged from hospital.

Glen Cahill, 43, was critically injured while waiting for a ride-share vehicle with his wife at the Hillarys Beach Club in Perth’s northern suburbs.

The father was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with head and facial injuries.

After more than a week in the care of doctors, Cahill’s loved ones have revealed the father was well enough to be discharged.

“He’s been improving every day and is finally home in his own bed and reestablishing the groove in his couch with the sport channels on,” his mother Karen Cahill said on Friday.

“But most importantly he’s back with Tarryn and their girls.

“There’s a long road ahead and it’s unclear when he’ll be back behind the wheel of his truck but he’s determined to do whatever it takes to make a full recovery.”

Police allege the November 5 attack was carried out by 40-year-old Quinns Rocks man Matthew Anthony Jennings, a stranger to the pair who had been acting in an “intimidating manner”.

Jennings was charged with grievous bodily harm and is next due to appear in court on November 22.

Cahill’s family previously described him as a “loving husband” and “devoted” dad to two girls aged four and six.

“He has an army of family and friends surrounding him with love and support at this tough time,” loved ones said.
