Capcom announces Monster Hunter Outlanders, an ‘authentic’ open-world mobile game

Capcom and TiMi Studio Group have announced Monster Hunter Outlanders, a new mobile game set in the Monster Hunter universe.

Whereas previous Monster Hunter games on mobile have tended to feature different gameplay (such as augmented reality, or more turn-based RPG mechanics), Outlanders is said to be a more “authentic” Monster Hunter experience on mobile.

Players will “explore and survive unique regions of an open-world map featuring natural environments, ecosystems and monsters”, and can craft and build gear and tools.

The game can be played solo or with a hunting party of up to four players. TiMi believes these elements will lead to “a mobile game that allows players to enjoy the Monster Hunter experience with friends, any time and anywhere”.

Although the game has yet to receive a release date, a number of play tests will take place before then. Players are invited to join the game’s Discord server or visit its website for more information on future tests.

TiMi Studio Group is a subsidiary of Tencent and specialises in mobile games. The group, which consists of studios around the world, is best known for Call of Duty Mobile, Age of Empires Mobile and Pokémon Unite, though this doesn’t necessarily mean those specific teams will be working on Monster Hunter Outlanders.

“It’s time for mobile players to fully enjoy what makes Monster Hunter one of the most beloved franchises in gaming”, TiMi Studio Group producer Dong Huang said in a statement.

“Monster Hunter Outlanders not only offers players an authentic hunting experience, but it does it in a massive open world featuring the community and social systems players are looking for today.”
