Wisconsin Rapids woman arrested after threats made to Washington Elementary School

WISCONSIN RAPIDS − A 24-year-old Wisconsin Rapids woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a threat made to a Wisconsin Rapids elementary school.

At 11:53 a.m. Tuesday, the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department responded to Washington Elementary School to investigate a threatening phone call received by school staff, according to a news release from the police department. Because of the threat, the police department had an increased presence at the elementary school throughout the afternoon.

Wisconsin Rapids detectives were able to identify and locate the phone used to make the threat and find a suspect, according to the release.

They arrested the 24-year-old woman and booked her into the Wood County Jail. Police will request charges from the Wood County district attorney’s office for swatting and making terrorist threats. The Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune is not naming the woman because charges have not yet been filed.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
