Why severe weather events are a ‘tailwind’ for infrastructure

Major hurricanes like Helene and Milton have caused significant infrastructure damage across multiple US regions this year, resulting in millions of dollars in repair costs. Advanced Drainage Systems CEO Scott Barbour joins Market Domination Overtime to discuss stormwater infrastructure challenges, and solutions.

Barbour reports that his company has been “quite busy” with recovery efforts, particularly in Florida and the Southeast. Looking ahead, he explains that severe weather events often “provide a tailwind’ for new projects and regulations, creating opportunities to redesign neighborhoods with enhanced water management capabilities.

Regarding infrastructure policy and support following Trump’s reelection, Barbour states, “I remain believing that water and water infrastructure is a bipartisan issue. Everyone is for clean water, everyone is for a neighborhood that doesn’t flood, [and] everyone is for a resilient community.”
