REVEALED: AFL and AFLW National Academy squads for 2025 announced

Western Australia will be represented by four boys and six girls in the AFL’s National Academy squads for 2025, announced on Monday.

Cody Curtin (Claremont), the younger brother of Adelaide defender and former first-round pick Daniel, is among the 28 players selected for the coveted program ahead of their eligibility for next year’s draft.

Wes Walley (Subiaco), Fred Rodriguez (South Fremantle) and Koby Evans (Perth) have also been hand-picked, an early indication the quartet is set to firm as promising draft prospects in 2025.

This year’s academy graduates in Bo Allan (Peel Thunder) and Malakai Champion (Subiaco) are two of the state’s strongest chances, with the former a potential top-10 pick and the latter tied to West Coast as an NGA product.

Kalani White, the son of former Melbourne and Fremantle ruck Jeff, is also included. He is a member of Gold Coast’s academy.

WA will be more heavily represented in the AFLW academy with six players included in the 27-player squad.

Evie Cowcher (Peel Thunder) looms as the state’s strongest prospect after being named WA’s MVP and selected in the All-Australian team in each of the past two seasons despite not being draft-eligible until next year.

She is joined by Alicia Blizard (East Fremantle), Olivia Crane (Subiaco), Alira Fotu (South Fremantle), Mia Russo (West Perth) and Olivia Wolmarans (Subiaco).

“Congratulations to all players selected in the 2025 Marsh AFL National Academy squads,” AFL National Academy Manager Tarkyn Lockyer said.

“All players are extremely deserving of their selection and have demonstrated elite football talent and a commitment to further enhance their skillset on and off the field in a high-performance environment.

“We welcome them to the Marsh AFL National Academy and look forward to working closely with them throughout the program.”
