Next Hyundai Tucson, i30 Sedan launching in 2026 – report

Two of Hyundai’s best-selling vehicles will soon be redesigned, and both are sticking with petrol and hybrid power for their next generation.

Korean outlet ET News reports the next generations of the Tucson and Avante – as the i30 Sedan is known in its home market – are due in the first half of 2026.

These are codenamed NX5 and CN8, respectively; the number in each code corresponds with the generation of vehicle.

This will mean Hyundai will stick with combustion-powered (ICE) versions of two of its core models into the 2030s, with their production runs potentially ending in 2033.

ET News reports Hyundai is extending the lifespan of ICE vehicles beyond 2030 in response to a temporary cooling of electric vehicle (EV) demand and easing environmental regulations – case in point, Euro 7 emissions standards in Europe ending up being much weaker than originally proposed.

The i30 Sedan will continue to offer petrol and hybrid options, while the Tucson will continue to come in petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid guises.

ET News reports these new-generation vehicles will have improved powertrain performance and the latest in Hyundai safety technology.

The current Tucson launched in 2020, arriving in Australia in 2021; a facelifted model arrived here earlier this year.

Likewise, the current Avante (aka Elantra and i30 Sedan) was launched in 2020 and arrived here in 2021; a facelifted version debuted in 2023 and arrived here early this year.

Both are crucial models for the brand.

In the US, the Tucson and Elantra (as the i30 Sedan is known there) were the brand’s two best sellers in 2023.

In Korea, the Avante was the sixth best-selling vehicle overall in 2023, and the third best-selling Hyundai behind the Grandeur sedan and Porter light truck.

In Australia, to the end of September the Tucson is Hyundai’s best-selling vehicle with 14,398 deliveries. The i30 range, which includes the older hatchback, sits in third place behind the Kona with 9243 deliveries.
